1911 saw the birth of one of the most popular bus companies.  the area around Chatham, Gravesend and Maidstone was the early stamping ground of the company which later expanded to reach the south coast at Blexhill and Hastings.  Thus covering much of the garden of England.  Maidstone and District vehicles reached Brighton on joint services with Southdown from Tunbridge Wells and london of range of express services including those from the north Kent coast and the Medway towns.  Today those services are rebranded Green Line/Invictaway a far cry from the coaches in restrained dark green and cream with the wonderful scroll company name seemingly timeless in its message to intending passengers - Maidstone and District - Quality and Service at your service
