HORNBY: Following the closure of the Canadian Hornby importer in 2023 we have contacted Hornby numerous times to secure continued supply of Hornby products to supply our Canadian customers. Unfortunately Hornby steadfastly refuse to communicate with us. Regretfully we have concluded that Hornby has no desire to support the Canadian market. As stocks of Hornby products are exhausted we are replacing these products with products from other manufacturers.

About Us:

British Model Trains Ltd. was purchased by Nigel Doran from Tony Potter, the original owner on May 6th 2018.  The business was relocated to Cambridge, Ontario.

January 2020: British Model Trains purchased all the inventory of Model Railway Imports.

Our goal is to provide a local source of Hornby, Bachmann, Peco and other British model railway items to modelers in Ontario selling to modelers through on line, email, train shows and personal visits by appointment.

Nigel is a life long railway enthusiast and railway modeler whose modelling interests began, as it did for so many modelers at an early age (in his case the age of four) with a Triang Princess Victoria train set.  The passion continued to grow and eventually in my teens I built an end to end branchline along one wall of my bedroom based on a track plan I saw in the Railway Modeler.  The layout was dismantled when I left the North East to study engineering at Portsmouth Polytechnic leading to an engineering career in the satellite industry.

After graduation I started my railway modelling once more only due to not having anywhere for a layout my focus was building kits and repairing, modifying and detailing used locomotives, coaches and wagons.  Following our move to Canada railway modelling was far from my mind until eventually we became empty nesters and there was opportunity to begin modelling once more.

My modeling interests reflect my strong British Railways North Eastern Region interest.  This reflects my heritage of growing up in a railway family most of whom were employed at either Shildon or Darlington North Road Railway Works as wagon repairers, fitters, blacksmiths, forge men and other railway trades.
