Smooth running and reliability were the most important aspects in the operation of an efficient trolley bus system.
The familiar tower wagon was key to the maintenance of the overhead wiring and this model is typical of the vehicles in service with London Transport.
Finished in the distinctive red livery of London Transport it represent AEC Mercury fleet number 89Q. A four ton tower wagon delivered in a batch of eight between August and October 1936.
A sister batch of Mercurys' followed in November of the same year fitted as pole carriers. the real DGJ 181 is preserved at the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden
