In 1887 the Railway Clearing House (RCH) issued its first set of specifications, which although not mandatory, did set down certain dimensional and other requirements in the construction of private owner wagons.

It is a wagon built to these specifications that this 'O'gauge model of the Gloucester Railway Coach and Wagon Company 6 plank open wagon, side door, represents.

Little is known about this wagon built for W.H. Thane a coal merchant in the Leamington area.

It was ordered in late 1891 and delivered in 1892. The only known running number is 21. Like many coal men Thane rented his wagon from Gloucester C&W. A picture of which can be seen on plate 612 from the Gloucester Coach and Wagon Company archives.

The livery for this wagon being, grey body and solebars. The ironwork was painted black. The lettering for W.H Thane is given as white letters shaded red.

As was typical of the period a brake was fitted on one side only.
